Wanted...

A swim coach. Male or female. Someone who will motivate me and make me work. Someone who will tell me what the heck I'm doing wrong and why I'm slower than molasses. Someone who won't laugh at me when I show them my "stroke" and tell me that I'm not meant to be a swimmer. Oh, and someone who won't laugh at the way I look in a swimsuit!

I'm not asking a lot am I?

I got in the pool yesterday. It's been a while. Okay, who am I kidding. I've swam 3 times since the Ironman. That was over 3.5 months ago. It wasn't pretty.

Tom, God bless him, tries to make it less dreadful. He bought me a Finis SwiMP3. It's one of those crazy under water MP3 players that doesn't go in your ears, but instead vibrates your cheekbones. It looks something like this (although for some reason, I hope I don't look like this girl when I put mine on because she kind of makes me giggle. Just something else to be self conscious about at the pool)

It's a really cool thing actually and *might* make me want to swim more. I enjoyed bebopping along to Duffy, Cold Play and everyone else that Tom loaded it with (brave, I know. We like some different stuff. Guess I shouldn't have been that surprised when Tiny Dancer came one. Such a pump-me-up sort of song! I love you dear!) I'm sure I looked like this... music notes following me and all. Actually I choked a few times because I found myself starting to sing when a new song came on, forgetting that I'm underwater. Damn you MP3 player that makes me forget I'm under water! I'll continue to use it, hopefully it'll help get me back in the water, and just so all you know...

I'm serious when I say I need a swim coach! :)

PS - this picture from the Finis website makes me laugh. She's probably not going to get much better swimming like this.

OMG, the part about where you choked on water because you started singing is hysterical! :)

I have seen a couple girls at the pool with this MP3 players. I am afraid it would distract me too much. It just seems weird.

I too need someone to check out my form and such in the pool. A handful of us adults are trying to get an adult swim class put together at our local Y and hopefully that will help me a bit!

Good luck!

I too LOL'd when you said you started to sing and forgot you were under water! Who knew you could have an MP3 player under water!

Ooh, I have always wanted one of those!!

I wish I could volunteer to be your coach or recommend someone, but I am way too far removed from all of that. I could probably give you a few pointers and that's about it. I'd love to swim with you sometime though - I'm sure we could help each other get motivated. And I haven't been in the pool for over a year, so don't beat yourself up too much!

If you didn't live so far away from me, I'd offer to help you. I can only picture you swimming along and all of a sudden thrashing about because you decided it would be a good idea to sing!

Colleen- I would love to help you! Lets seriously arrange it and lets go there one night after MK is in bed and I will work with you. Remember I swam for 15 years but it has been a while. I could maybe give you a few tips but nothing like the professionals could do for you now. But I am willing to try!

Damnit you got one of those - jealous!!!!!!!

I feel the same about my swimming, I feel that the lifeguards all watch me from their chairs laughing inside! Plus the one time I was in a lane at the y and I was in the middle of some team practice where they were practicing flip turns sothey were lined upaniut 30 feet from the wall waiting to turn and I am sure I splashed the hell out of them as i swam by.

I thought about getting liz to assist me.

I've wondered about the SwimP3, but it'll be a while till I buy one. I would have a hard time keeping count of laps though, I lose track too much as it is!!

Hope you find a coach, I had one last year and she helped me SO much! Definitely was worth it!

LOL. I'm so glad I found your blog. Your last post was cracking me up!

It looks like we might be doing some of the same races, Great Buckeye and Toyota. I'm planning on the Olympic and the HIM respectively.

I look forward to stopping back by and reading more about your journey.

Take care!

I think if I listened to music while swimming, I might forget to turn at the wall and bash right into it :-)

And I think I've swam maybe 4 times since my 70.3 last October. Ouch.
