I know that a week from today is the coveted Boston Marathon. And I'm sure that many of my blogger friends are running it (I think I'm <del> stalking del> following at least 10 runners on Monday). If you are running it, let me know - I'll do a shout out post toward the end of the week (and I want to know your bib numbers so that I don't have to super stalk you for last names).
But, this post isn't about the Boston Marathon. I'm not fast enough to run it and quite frankly, I'm probably one of the only runner's in the world that doesn't have a deep seeded desire to qualify (that would mean focusing on just running to get faster or getting older so my qualifying time drops... both of which I don't really want to do right now).
This post is about the race all the cool kids are doing...
The Glass City Marathon / Half Marathon.
You read that right. The race in booming Toledo. What, you haven't heard about it? It's flat. It's fast. And we get beer mugs at the end.
BOOYAH!
Okay, I'm done being a goof. But I am excited about this race. After Tom's race in New Jersey, he wanted to carry his marathon fitness to another race and see if he could PR. After talking to some bloggers, we were lead to the Glass City. Flat race that's 2 hours away? Marathon option for Tom and half marathon option for me? Count us in.
I'm only doing the half and I'm excited. Because of the whole Buddy situation two weeks ago, we skipped our half marathon in Xenia. I've yet to race this year. This half will be a good test to see where I'm at. I'm not expecting a PR, and I'm fine with that. If I can come in around 9:00/miles, I'd be alright with that too. I'm looking to have fun, feel good and know that my fitness is where it should be.
And the biggest bonus is that I get to meet up with a few bloggers - Kevin, his wife Jennifer, Matty-O, his wife Heather, and Big Daddy Diesel will all be there. Finally I get to put faces with names (and I get to see if BDD does really exist... or does he???)
Remember, if you are running Boston (or any race this weekend) let me know.

I think that's because your a triathlete 1st. I wouldn't be opposed to qualifying for Boston but I agree - I wouldn't want to focus on that as my sole mission. With the new qualifying requirements coming into affect my chances of qualifying are also slim to none. Right up there with qualifying for Kona!
have fun...good luck and enjoy your race. I'm doing a 25k trail race this weekend. My goal is to live to tell about it!!!
I'm like you, no desire to run Boston or any other Marathon for that matter! I'm doing a 1/2 on the 30th and that's probably the farthest I'll ever go. I'm not ruling out running more 1/2's in the future, I just don't want to commit the time and energy it takes to run a good full!
I want to know that BDD exists!!! picture please!!!! ha ha!!!
you may have to pay copyright for that!!!
Nice! Have a blast!
I've heard this is a great race. I'd like to do this some year since Toledo is only about 1:15 away.
SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO jealous!
BDD
Kevin
Heather & MAtty-O?!?!
too. awesome.
BDD is just a figment of everyone's imagination. Lol. Good luck this weeked!
This sounds so fun!!!
You had me at beer!
Beer glasses at the end. Wow, that is awesome!
And you get to meet the elusive BDD. Too much excitement in one day!
Have a great race!
We totally need to put those beer glasses to use ASAP after the race :) What time do they start serving beer in Ohio??? haha
And you aren't alone about Boston. Sure, it is on my lifetime bucket list, but I am in hurry to run out and qualify (pun intended). There are plenty of other goals on my list and Boston is just a drop in the bucket.
That is going to be a blast! Wish I could come run it too )-:
Fair warning: If you try to take a pic of BDD your camera may or may not self destruct. Be very careful (-:
i'm totally not fast enough either to BQ. Therefore i will live vicariously through everyone else. haha. And i would totally join you in that half I lived closer!
I wish I was going to run next Sunday with you guys instead of yesterday. That sounds like so much fun! Ya'll are gonna have so a great time.
super cool on the meetups - what a motley crew:)
have a great run!
D
Unfortunately I have that desire to reach Boston one day... esp since my fave cousins live like 1/4 mile away from Heartbreak Hill. Man I can't wait to get my BQ!
Good luck to you and Tom in Toledo this weekend!
I have no interest in Boston either. Especially now that they didn't let me even volunteer. ha
That race sounds like so much fun!! Wish I could be there for sure.
i am so excited to run boston, because i know i will never qualify for it... and i already ran with a charity, so this was like a free ticket.
my bib number is 23539. yup, the very last wave!
you are going to kill the half!
am I the only one that doesnt know what a BDD is? Is this blogger lingo that I'm missing!?
Have a great race this weekend! and I agree- boston shmoston. :) I'll stick with my nine minute miles.
I have never thought about Boston, its like Kona for me, 2 events I will never be able to qualify for.
LOL!! What has started out with I race alone and never had anyone around to take a picture has turned into a full pledge mythbusters episode. Amazing, when I meet people, they are like "your BDD?" Only one person has figured it out correctly. YOu will get the story it in Toledo, it makes sense after you hear it.
Good luck this weekend!! Yay for a (relatively) local and flat course... and beer mugs- what a great finisher's gift!
I'm so excited race season is here! :)
Jeff is right. I stole a picture of BDD at Portage Lakes on my blackberry. It has been on the fritz ever since. I tell you what, no picture is worth the price of having to replace the cameras haha.
Should be a blast. It is very fast.
Figured I can give Tom the pointers from what I remember and if interested I did a pretty good review on my blog from last year. There are no fans for the full marathon from like mile 6 to mile 23 haha. Just corn fields and road. It is NOT a closed course either, so be careful.
From the sounds of a few posts, taking a picture of BDD will enable self destruct mode or the rath of the almighty upon you! LOL!
Good luck this weekend!
You're going to have a blast! : )
Jealous of the beer mug. I'm doing a half this weekend and I think all I'm getting is soaked by the predicted rain. Also, I would do jumpy claps if I could run 9:00/mile! :-)
i have no desire to do boston either... i think if you really wanted to qualify you could. i think it's personally a little over rated. no contest compared to kona.
oh and doing NOLA 70.3 this weekend :)
I love the half marathong distance. it is long enough to crank things up with out dying.
Beer Mugs at the finish. Now there is an AWESOME idea!
Good luck! I too love the ides of the beer mug!
I would love to go to Boston, I will never be fast enough though, and I am ok with that. Have an awesome race! That sounds like one I could add to my list next year????
Man, that race is like a Blogging All Star race. Woo wee. Yeah, even though I BQ'd in Feb, I think I will switch out Boston next May for Glass City.
How fun! I want a beer mug! Can't wait to see the pics.
I'm behind on blogs just reading back through. I'm right there with you...I could not care less about Boston. At my speed I'd have to keep running my pace at age 80 to qualify.
