Vacations

**edited**

I need a vacation (who doesn't right?). But I need one something fierce. This weather has me wanting to pull my hair out (or just sit on the couch with my heated throw, watching cupcake wars - what, that's not a productive Saturday?) I seriously am diagnosing myself with SIDS (this is where I edited this blog. Yes, I meant SAD. HAHAHA - don't have any sudden infant death - see the cold is getting to my brain!). Or a case of the crappy weather blues (aren't those really the same thing). We have two trips planned in the next three weeks - one is an overnight ski/casino trip. The other is out to NC for 2 days to see my grandparents (who God bless them, are convinced that they don't know my husband and have zero recollection of ever meeting him). Don't be jealous. And while I'm looking forward to these two getaways, it's just not this:
And there won't be many of these:
So, I'm on a mission. Tom and I don't do things very spontaneously (like heading to Meijer for a dinner that's not on the "weekly schedule" is super spontaneous for us most days). I have $750 in free Southwest funds. That's enough to get us to Orlando, Miami or Fort Lauderdale. From there, we can get on a cruise ship and sail for three nights to a tropical destination, eat an ungodly amount of food at endless buffets and unlimited soft serve ice cream machines, run laps around the top of the boat (totally beats running them in the gym!), sit by a pool or on a beach with trashy magazines (or Triathlete, Runner's World, and Shape because that's how we roll) and not think about anything except if I've turned over recently to balance out the sun burn tan that I'm bound to get.
Sounds perfect right?
I know.
Question - what cruise line would you choose? Carnival? Royal Caribbean? Norwegian?
They are all sailing when I want. They all go to either the Bahamas or Mexico (which doesn't really matter to me as I've been to both and quite frankly would probably stay on the ship when we docked). They all sail from Florida - how hard is it to get to Port Canaveral if I fly to Orlando or to the Port of Miami if I fly to Ft. Lauderdale? They are all pretty much the same price.
That's the only choice I have to make. Easier said than done and totally not spontaneous since I've been thinking about it nonstop for three days and have yet to book anything.
Of course, once I book something then I just have to hurry up and wait until we leave. And I have to stop eating. :)
Small price to pay to not have to suffer anymore through this weather. Anyone wanna come?

I'm with ya! I'm ready to move South, this weather really stinks. Can't give you much cruise ship advice other than..."Take Me"! Maybe you'll hit it big at the casino?

No idea on the cruise thing. Have so much fun - most of the fun is picking out your trip!!

It just occurred to me why I am always the only girl on all of my trips...I always go to desolate and/or cold places... But I love it... ANYWAY, enjoy planning your trip! Sounds warm, and getting out of dodge is the KEY!

Ooooh! We went on a cruise for our honeymoon and it was fantastic! We used Holland America, which was beautiful, but I think it's more popular with the older crowd? Have fun planning! And there's a show called Cupcake Wars? I need to DVR that! :)

Jennifer and I just went on a cruise over Christmas. We went on Norwegian, and it was not so hot compared to a previous cruise on Royal Caribbean. It was just "ok" on Norwegian, but we really REALLY love Royal Caribbean.

going on a trip sounds super fun! I do think you meant SAD instead of SIDS-suddent infant death syndrome. I have never been on a cruise, so I don't have any advise other than to go for it!

We went on Carnival a few years ago- it was great with a 3 year old, but would be fine for a couple, too. We went out of Tampa (very close to the airport). I am totally over the cold! Happy planning. I agree about skipping the shore excursions. You will find the ship is nearly deserted and you can do whatever you want. (We usually went to the gym, ate a mellow lunch, or went to the spa).

I am right with you - this ice, snow and cold is very depressing!! Good for you - getting away!

DOH - yep, SAD, not SIDS! HAHAHA - I'm telling you, my brain is fried from being so cold!! I've edited the blog to reflect the right condition! Thanks ladies for correcting me!

I got nothing. It was 75 today and I live a mile from the Pacific Ocean. Sorry, never been on a cruise. But, I do like your blog :-)

Ugh the beach looks so inviting! I am tired of the cold! Not much on the input side, but enjoy the trip!

Royal Caribbean! Not a fan of Norwegian and Carnival is too party party. Royal is a bit "nicer."

Go someplace warm for me! I am done with winter.

I freaking feel about being stranded inside and this week is gonna be colder then last week, running laps and people watching will only assume us for so long before we get sick of it

I have used Royal Caribbean, I really liked them alot. They have some good deals on 3 night cruise too

I have cruised Princess...which isn't on the list! Really...I don't think you can go wrong with any of them.

I know that flying into Ft Lauderdale and getting to Miami is pretty easy...should be a shuttle between cities or maybe a $40 cab ride.

Bon Voyage!!!

I have not cruised and like you I need a vacation. So I am planning a trip to New Orlearns for my birtdhay weekend. It also happens to be the weekend of IM NO 70.3 which is an added bonus! I won't be racing but I will be cheering!

I hpe ou have a fab trip!

Out of those three I'd go with RC. With Norwegian a close second.
I keep telling myself it's too early in th e year to be burnt out by winter, I lie.
Have fun!
