Another Random's Update

Just 'cause I'm feeling super random today...

  • Thank you all for your encouraging words on my last post about being self coached. And I appreciate the suggestion to move my rest day to Monday. During my race training schedule, I'm the laziest person in the world on Mondays. For now unfortunately, I think I'm going to need the break after the two days of intervals. I'll probably adjust things as I go.
  • Speaking of training... I am meeting the hubby on our trainers in T-minus 40 minutes for our first bike interval workout of the year. I think he's going to take pleasure in my torture. I don't' know why. What doesn't kill me makes me stronger - right? Right?
  • Beth wrote a blog about optimal race weight the other day. It's from the Racing Weight Book that is sitting next to my bed I'm reading. According to the little formula that Mr. Fitzgerald lays out, to be at my optimal racing weight, I have to lose 18 pounds. Um... well... okay. Maybe I'll shoot for my "almost optimal racing weight". In any event, Beth and I are going to do this together - aren't we girl?
  • Speaking of weight... I gained some weight over the holiday. I usually get uber depressed about this. This time, I just sucked it up, put on my big girl panties (literally) and am taking care of things. It's amazing what eating well again can do for your mind and body (although, I'm missing my cookies. There... I admitted it) I feel good.
  • And speaking of food - we went to Panera today. YUM. I love their Asian Chicken Salad. It's sooooooo good. And I get to meet Meredith tomorrow for lunch at Noodles and Company. Remember... the crack mac and cheese dealer that I love. :) Yeah, don't think I'll be doing the mac and cheese, but you just never know.
  • I ordered my Kestrel today. Another inanimate object to fall in love with! :) I'm so excited... she's going to be a beaut!
  • Oh, I also ordered my new Avia's. I went back and forth with whether or not I should get the Bolts which are the racing flat or the Lite III which are the cushion. I decided to not be all crazy and stuff and got the Lite III's. I think it was a smart choice. For now.
  • Being on Trakkers is like Christmas. I like Christmas. Our sponsors are amazing!
  • REV3 and Team Type 1 have partnered up for this year. Super exciting for both parties if you ask me. Here's the article if you are interested. And yes, I have a vested interest in both parties, but whatever - it's still exciting. :)
  • So Team Type 1 is running across the country this year. Running people... 3000+ miles. There are 10 guys, all Type 1 diabetics. They will start in California and end in New York on World Diabetes Day. My hubby is managing the "race" per say (it's not an official race - he is forming the route and everything) and the guys. It's going to be awesome. These guys are amazing. I'm hoping to be there at the start, and at the end. Probably along the way a little too.
  • Did you watch the Bachelor the other night? Yeah, we didn't either (ha... yeah we did). I always make a prediction of who the desperate man or woman will pick. I have a good track record going on. I chose the girl that got the first impression rose. I was *this* close to picking the girl who slapped him when she got out of the car or the girl with the fangs. No. Not really. But he did keep them both didn't he?

What's random in your life now?

I did an interval workout on the trainer yesterday. Ugh. Godspeed to you!

I just received a book I ordered about nutrition for endurance athletes. I almost ordered that racing weight one. Kind of glad I didn't now. I'm afraid about what it would say I have to lose! :-)

I am reading Racing Weight too. I'm apparently 10 pounds from my optimal weight, which also coincides with my ultimate in my head goal weight. the same weight I have been trying to get to for 5 years. Probably not going to happen.

My racing weight is supposed to be 105. Whoever decided that has got to be crazy!!!

I'll see you tomorrow. And, I'm getting the mac and cheese.

How cool on the Type 1 team and your husband managing it. Also great that you guys keep each other company on the trainer--misery loves company!

And so jealous of all that great stuff you guys are getting!

Take the rest day whenever it fits your schedule best! I've moved mine around a lot based on my goals. I really want to read that book! Thanks for sharing.

Riding in Clermont at the National Traiing Center tomorrow. Taking a day off to do this is totally random in my book. It helps that blog buddy Ryan "White Hot" will be here from North Carolina. (Never pass up an opportunity to ride with someone that knocks out IM bikes in 4:45).

I may have to check out that racing weight book. Interesting. I also love that you have a training bike date w/your hubby upstairs. How cute is that?! :)

I put on a couple pounds too this holiday season, but who doesn't?! Here's to getting our butt kicked at the gym this week!!! Cheers!

I am reading racing weight too - ugh. I need to drop about 18 lbs according to him. I am going to start with 10 and go from there.

LOVE the randomness BTW. Love the Team Type 1 connection. AND that you have a trainer buddy!

Oooooh, new bike! So exciting. I've been doing some bike/pricing research and I'm meeting with one of the guys at my local bike shop next week to decide if it would be better to upgrade components/wheels or get a whole new bike. (And then I will be filling out job apps for a second job to pay for it all, haha.)

So cool you and your husband train and race together. I need to find a tri guy like that :)

I'm sure I need to drop about 30 lbs to be racing weight!

I should get my Racing WEight book down from the shelf and read it again. I'm sure I have many pounds to lose to get there!

Unknown said...

i think I should never read racing weight.

Kinda wish I had ordered the Avi IIIs.. oh well.

Hmmm, racing weight -- I am not sure if I want to know!

It is like Christmas isn't it? RE the racing weight: I'm pretty sure I'm AT my racing weight (could stand to tone up) but I CERTAINLY do not have a racing diet. Gah I eat such junk. I was just thinking this needs to be my blog topic for tomorrow. Is January 6th too late for a resolution? LOL!

There is a formula for racing weight? I always thought I was at race weight when a <10 mph wind would blow me over on the bike (-:

You are all too funny...

To figure out the "optimal racing weight" it's kind of simple.

Take your current weight and find your lean body mass (current weight x (100% - BF%). once you get this number, divide (100% - your goal BF - for women triathletes, it's supposed to be 12-16%. For men, 6-10%)

For example (and these are not my numbers!) Let's say you weigh 175 and you have a BF% of 16%. (and you're a guy). You would take 175 x .84. That equals 147. Then say your optimal BF% is 8%. 147 / .92 = 159.8 would be your optimal weight.

Make tons of sense? I thought so!

oh oh, what is the calc to figure out your ideal race weight?

love the randommness!

Kacie Darden said...

Hey! Thanks for the calculations. I have the book and have read it, but have been avoiding it while the knee has been healing. I anxiously did your calculations and figured out that my optimal eight is not as terrifying as I thought it would be! After traveling this weekend, I will hop on the bandwagon with you :-)

I did the bod pod body fat testing two years ago... that was soooo cool. I highly recommend it if you have access.

Love the random post!

I only gained 3 pounds between Ironman and X-mas, then 5 pounds between X-mas and new year! LOL...

Holy cow, lots of random's! Can't wait to hear about the new bike!! Was also great to hear that TT1 and REV3 have teamed up. Can't wait to see you guys at the races.

Joel said...

I'm just a little scared to see what my race weight is supposed to be. I'll jot down the formula and break out the old slide ruler to calculate it. :-)

I ordered the Lite III's also. Looking forward to wearing them.

Molly said...

yeah, I had to forgo my skinny jeans on new years eve, bummer!!!! But like you said, get back on track and it will be all good.

This post is hysterical!

Optimal race weight=losing 18 pounds? Really??!! From where? Your ears? Gheez. By the way... one year I put on 14 pounds in between Thanksgiving and New Years. EASY to do... just drink Guinness indiscriminately at all hours of the day, eat a second dinner at 11:00 p.m. and have a couple of on the rocks watching bowl games and eating chicken wings.

Gotta love the big girl panties. Nothing is quite as sexy.
