And finally, yesterday Tom and I ran a half marathon in Xenia Ohio. I didn't know how it was going to go as I've been having some knee issues since coming home from Tahiti and some confidence issues since our last 12 mile run. I thought I had lost a lot of the speed I worked hard to build between the first of the year and now. A few days before the race I looked up the course and the first 1/2 was up. Another strike against me as a runner. Oh well...So I went into this race with the thought that I would just run it and enjoy myself, nothing more. So we got there, signed in and waited on the potty line. We literally walked up to the start as the gun went off so we had no time to think about the race. And it definitely was up hill! But we just ran... and ran... and ran. My previous PR for a half marathon was 2:04:53. According to our Garmin, I finished yesterday's 13.1 miles in ... are you ready for this??? 1:59:52!!! I had a running goal for myself this year that by the Ironman I wanted to run a sub-2:00 half! I'm so excited! According to the race website, I finished in 2:00:53, but we never went over a mat to activate our chips so everyone had the same start time which isn't right. I'm taking my PR and keeping it! ;) I mean, the Garmin is GPS so it must be right! Also, I think I won the "Chunky Chicks" category. There were only three of us entered and I was the fastest so I'll be anxious to see if I get an award - last year I came in 2nd and they mailed me one. For those that are interested, here are my miles splits:
- Mile 1: 9:02
- Mile 2: 9:17
- Mile 3: 9:28
- Mile 4: 9:28
- Mile 5: 9:37
- Mile 6: 9:13
- Mile 7: 9:07
- Mile 8: 9:10
- Mile 9: 9:11
- Mile 10: 8:57
- Mile 11: 9:00
- Mile 12: 8:42
- Mile 13: 8:43
Ah... it was a good weekend!

Sexy aero bars!! And GREAT 1/2 time!! Congrats!!
Colleen- Great Job! I am sure you feel so much better now that you got that out of the way! Your new handle bars look like fun.
Wow, you ran a negative split by a mile! Awesome! I don't think I've ever run a negative split in my life. Keep it up and you'll be sprinting the marathon in Panama City!
Neat bike! Conversely, I found out today that I have to retire my much loved, much ridden bicycle. I got it my senior year of high school (18 years ago) and used it all through college, all through my early years of marriage...many long rides we have taken together. I love to ride my bicycle, I love to ride my bike...
It has been on my trainer for many moons, and I had Mike take it to the bike shop for a tune up, new tires, etc. in anticipation of some road time. Alas, it is really too far gone to make it worth the money. I have a hybrid, but I feel really sad about the loss of my "real" bike. The one I outfitted with my clips, my odometer, and tons of reflective tape. The one that has my special seat and my little pack of tools. The one I added a second water bottle carrier to.
I look at it as a friend. I don't know if that makes any sense to anyone! My friend, I'm sorry to see you go. :o(
Awesome race, awesome attitude...you'll kick butts in Panama City. I can't wait to see you do that. Love you, hon
