Ah, speed, I've missed you...

It's been a while since I've been able to push the pace a little on a run.  I'm still wrapping my back up and my thigh when I run and quite honestly, after running half of Chicago two weeks ago, I really felt like my fitness was down.   I know my speed definitely is, as I ran half of Chicago in 2:03. Ugh, talk about feeling like I was behind the 8 ball.

But I've been running a lot (well a lot, considering that my September was my lowest training month all year) and I'm feeling good.  And I'm seeing some speed come back.

Momma likes her some speed.

I'm not fast... I mean, I will probably never be fast. It's all relative though. But low 8:00's total felt comfortable today.  Mid 8:00's have been fairly normal.  Let's just see how far those paces can carry me.  I'm thinking of signing up for a half marathon in two weeks.  And I still have a sub 4:00 marathon on my radar. Probably won't be Disney (since I'm running the half the day before), but... I think it's coming.  I'm due! :)

Speaking of marathons... did you see that an 80 year old ran a marathon yesterday in 3:15 and that a 100 year old finished a marathon in 8 hours.

That is awesome.

I'm so glad you're back out there blistering the pavement. There's nothing wrong with running 8's. That's about all I've got! :) Glad you doing well.

You gotta take the small victories when you can! Nice job Colleen!

I have heard about that 80 year old before. I wanna be HIM when I grow up!

Woohoo!!! Awesome news!

3:15 for an 80 year old???? Holy crap. Well, at least I have a solid 50 years to drop a few more minutes off my PR. haha

I'm jealous of your upcoming Goofy!

Glad your speed is coming back!

I hope to still be running when I'm 80. I hope I can make it to 100, too. :)

Glad you are doing better. 80 year old running 3:15 is crazy. Holy cow. 8 hour marathon is a sign of "early" dementia. Who wants to be out there that long??

Continued luck on your training. :)

This is such great news to read. Congrats on finding that elusive speed.

I read the 3:15 by the 80 year old and told myself that was 3 days 15 hours. That was after I picked up my jaw off the floor.

Absolutley incredible. Makes me feel like a wuss for wondering if I could run 3:10 in December.

Yay for speed! I'm sure you have lots of untapped potential in there waiting to come out. Keep it up.

And yes, love those old guys!

Sounds like things are moving in the right direction!
I too love me some speed. But it's also where I get injured so I'm laying off of it for awhile.
I love to see the oldsters doing so well--hopefully that'll be us one day!

I know what you are talking about. Speed just releases all these little happy guys (endorphins) and you feel like you want to feel every time you work out haha.

Good job!

See you in a couple weeks!!!

You might want to think about oh, maybe, the charleston marathon in jan or the myrtle beach marathon in feb? both are in SC. Also I can highly recommend the Tobacco Road marathon in Raleigh in March. I plan on going sub-4 at all three of those. Might even break 3:30, you never know.

An 8 minute pace is plenty fast for us mortals. it's what I've worked up to, and I'm quite happy with it. Your speed will come back soon enough.

Great job getting back in the game!

There is something both endearing, and demoralizing, when I look at race results and realize that people in the 70+ age groups were faster than me. I really hope to still be going strong at that age!

Yay for sub 4 hour marathons! That's on my radar too! That would be awesome to do at Disney! Lots of luck! Glad you are finally feeling better!

You could always come run RnR Seattle!

Patience will build speed back....many times people see great improvements after extended "recovery"...

Glad you're back to running, I'm sure it'll come together!

Nice job! And yes, I'm totally jealous that an 80 year-old can kick my ass on a marathon course any day.
